Above any of this people of all religions can agree that we were given free will to screw up our lives in any number of a multitude of ways. If homosexuals really want to try their hand at marriage, I say let them have it, maybe they can make something better of it than what straight people have. If not, nobody will be any worse off than what we are now.
How about this concept for you theologists out there? If you stay away from sin only because the law of your land is so consistent with the rules of your religion that you have no free choice but to be without sin, are you truly without sin?
The point is that if you are trying to legislate a country into alignment with your religious requirements, you might get a country where everyone is following the rules, but nobody wants to. Religion is much more effective when it changes the hearts of people through compassion, not through force. This isn't about bringing people closer to god, this is about imposing will upon others.
